Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I updated my 12.04 64b Ubuntu and after restart, all icons from unity launcher and app switcher (the Alt+Tab window) are missing, check the screenshot.

I tried to restart OS but no change. Any ideas how to get them back? :) Thanks

I really don't know if it's a bug (didn't find anyone else having the same problem) or some issue with my configuration – Lada Jul 14 '12 at 18:00
That one is certainly a bug, especially if you got it in an update. (Unless you were doing some kind of crazy messing with your configuration?) – Jorge Castro Jul 14 '12 at 18:01
Non that I know of :) Thanks – Lada Jul 14 '12 at 18:31

Unable to write this up (thanks moderator!), but workarounds is to do a ppa-purge xorg-edgers to get back to the original drivers. If you stil lneed 3D, use this one instead: launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers . Makes my computer faster than it ever was. – Marius Kjeldahl Jul 16 '12 at 16:31

Be aware that ppa-purge xorg-edgers destroyed my Ubuntu completely. I had to reinstall half the system because it uninstalled parts of ubuntu-desktop. I had to reinstall xorg-edgers anyway because xorg doesn't work without it. With it though I don't have icons but I learned to live with it.
