I'm interested in recording FM and UHF radio signals.

I was wondering if there is a program which might be capable to run on a server (Ubuntu Server) at all times and capture and record radio signals at a given frequency.

You'd have to have some kind of hardware device connected to your computer to receive a radio signal. This is a USB device, but probably only supplies software/drivers for Windows. silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBFMRadioRD.aspx – Ed Manet Jul 12 '12 at 15:18
If you look in software centre or Synaptic (which is what I often use), there is a whole section entitled 'Amateur radio (universe)', which contains some very useful packages. I think there is some UHF related software in that section to do with receiving and logging transmissions. Probably someone else will have some further experiences with the utilities, but I thought I would just direct your attention to them. – Mik Jul 12 '12 at 16:32
Thanks a lot for your answer! The thing about what device to buy, with good available drivers is really an issue. I have a yakumo usb reciever and that in particular it's the only not supported of the yakumo series. So I want to buy a supported one but I'll have to take some time to invest on it. I tried to look for on the software center but I didn't caught that I hadn't the universe repositories enabled, so that suggestion seems to be the best starting point. Thanks a lot!! – pulchras Jul 14 '12 at 17:53
