I have been looking for the answer for the better part of a day now. Have installed Ubuntu 12.04 LST on said computer, ethernet connection is fine, but cant for the life of me get wifi to work.

Using sudo rfkill list all, I see it is hardblocked, but bios doesnt give me an option to turn wifi on on boot up, and i get no response from the button on the side of the laptop. Everything else is running perfectly.

Have you tried opening settings and going in to "Additional Drivers"? Extra wifi and graphics drivers usually appear there.
