I have a Sony VAIO notebook, type VPCZ13A7E running Ubuntu 12.10 64 bits. While using sound, I'm experiencing these symptoms:

  • sound crackling when computer awakes
  • Sound becomes jerky and switches between my earplugs and the integrated speakers. I can also see the sound indicator changing by its own, when this is happening.

How can I fix this? And, optionally, for my understanding, what are the origins of these problems?

EDIT:

Could you provide more information? I don't have access to your specific machine, so please share what sound card it is about and what kernel modules are used for this. (output of at least some of these commands: lspci -nn, sudo lshw -C sound, aplay -L, cat /proc/asound/cards, uname -r) – gertvdijk Dec 30 '12 at 16:30
I put all the outputs of these commands on pastie – jafar Dec 31 '12 at 14:03
Your sound card has different modes. Try setting switching it using pavucontrol similar to this answer (but disregard the Bluetooth aspect). Also try running the Ubuntu default kernel. – gertvdijk Dec 31 '12 at 14:14
