I ran apt-get install python-mpi4py python-h5py python-chaco python-traits on a working install of Ubuntu 11.10. A configuration screen came up asking me about grub and I told it not to try to use/install grub. (It looked like the normal captive textual UI for dpkg configuration stuff).

Before this my system seemed to be fine but now my kernel install is somehow broken. Whenever I try to do anything I get a message about it

root@anian:~# apt-get install vim
