It seems that some apps won't play nice with Ubuntu, or perhaps specifically with Unity. (I'm using 11.10 but hope to upgrade soon.)

One typical example is PuTTY which will launch and run just fine, but when I Alt-Tab to another application and then want to Alt-Tab back, I realize that it doesn't exist as far as Unity is concerned.

I can uncover the app by minimizing all the other windows that are on top of it, but that's very tedious.

Is this a problem with Unity, or with the specific program? I'm guessing the latter.
Is there a way to solve this problem? How do I make a program appear in the Alt-Tab list?

This problem existed for me on 12.04 until a recent Unity update. Updating to 12.04 and updating Unity may help. – Ryan McClure Jul 5 '12 at 6:58
