I'm new to Linux, and installing Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. I'm liking Ubuntu, but I can't get a WLAN driver, so I'm stuck without an easy connection to the internet. I've been searching around the web for a while, and can't find anything that works.

The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6408nr. Here is a link to the specs http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01061065&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3308890&prodTypeId=321957

I may be mistaken, but I believe the WLAN card is Broadcom BCM94311MCG

My output from lspci is:

I don't see the driver available in System > Administration > Additional Drivers.

Again, I'm totally new to Linux, so please help me fix the problem/find the driver in an easy-to-understand way.

Thank you!

Why are you using 10.10? it is out of support, using a newer version that contains a newer kernel that probably has a driver for your wifi chip would be better. – Uri Herrera Jul 2 '12 at 8:07
I've heard from multiple people (every friend I know who uses Linux) that 10.10 is the best, and that they ruined it in later versions. – Keavon Jul 2 '12 at 17:24

You can install a whole lot of different Desktop environments in Ubuntu (and on linux distros for that matter), instead of depending on someone else's opinion try the new 12.04 if you don't like Unity unininstall it, simple as that and install another thing, those complaining are just fanboys and cannot simply run 1 command to install another desktop environment. Not to mention that 12.04 has better hardware support , it's an LTS, most PPAs are providing packages for 12.04 and 11.10 only and dropping support for older versions, such as Wine which currently is at 1.5, 10.10 ver. is 1.3, etc. – Uri Herrera Jul 2 '12 at 17:44
