I'm using a dual boot PC. When booted to Ubuntu 12.04, Chrome 19.x browser is very slow and connection attempts time out before loading a page. When booted to Windows Vista, the same browser, Chrome 19.x, is very peppy, and can have lots of tabs open at once without any performance hit. Does anyone have any idea what would cause web browsing to be so slow, and almost unusable when booted to Ubuntu 12.04?

Have you installed Ubuntu through Wubi? In my experience, this can cause Ubuntu to run very slowly for some reason. – Aaron Jun 26 '12 at 23:25
No, I did not use Wubi, as that would have left me with a virtual machine, like an app version of Ubuntu running inside Windows. I did a full install of Ubuntu and repartitioned my hard drive to give Ubuntu its own space. When I boot my PC, I have a menu to choose which OS to boot into. – Gary R Jun 27 '12 at 0:04
No not all can Wubi be compared to a Vm totally different things, anyhow does this happen with other browsers? – Uri Herrera Jun 27 '12 at 0:37
If connection attempts time out, it probably has more to do with the networking adapter in use rather then the browser. I'd try testing internet speeds against the ISP in Windows and Ubuntu, and comparing. – mikewhatever Jun 27 '12 at 3:26
Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the speeds and found that download speed with Ubuntu is 8.99Mbps, download with Windows is 10.72Mbps -- seems pretty close to me; and, upload with Ubuntu is 3.75Mbps, Windows 3.73Mbps -- a wash. There must be some other internal configuration difference with Ubuntu that is causing the timeouts. – Gary R Jun 27 '12 at 16:40
