I burnt a CD and a jump drive and I want to install Ubuntu on a Windows XP computer. But the computer keeps showing the blue screen:

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

Is there any way I can install Ubuntu still? Do I have to fix Windows to be able to install it? And if so, does anyone know how to fix it?

I don't have the Windows installation pack.

Are you looking to dual boot with Windows or wipe it of and just use Ubuntu? – Chris Carter Jun 26 '12 at 21:24

If you say you burned the CD and the USB stick, are you able to boot from them? (restart the computer, configure it to boot from CD). If the Ubuntu CD boots, then there's a problem strictly with Windows. If you're using Wubi to try to install, you don't need the CD or USB stick; but if you're getting the blue screen while using Wubi, I'd appreciate if you could clarify. Otherwise, this is a problem with Windows, which unfortunately I can't help with. – roadmr Jun 26 '12 at 22:02
I want to wipe off and just use ubuntu but it's like the computer ignores it anyway. How would I use Wubi when the computer won't even go past the windows logo screen? – Joscine Jun 27 '12 at 0:33

I recommend you Install Ubuntu

It can be installed of many ways. But your Windows is broken so you must Download the LiveCD and then run it and install Ubuntu like the only OS (its what I recommend).

If he is trying to install a dual boot and resizes the windows partition that is crashing, will that not prevent Windows disk check from working?? Don't suppose it matters if He is trying to wipe windows altogether... – TrailRider Jun 26 '12 at 23:37

It sounds like your bios is not set to boot from CD or USB before your hard drive.

Windows does not control how your computer boots so the fact that it is broken should not stop you installing Ubuntu.

When you start your computer up the first screen will tell you how to access your bios (usualy by pressing one of the 'F' keys or the 'delete' key)

Once you have access to your bios you can change the boot order to boot from CD or USB first.
