I being new and trying to fix my system to boot into windows automatically edited my grub.cfg file to point at the windows file. now the system won.t boot as I entered the wrong number in the line I edited. I was told that I could edit it from a live CD.

I can sometimes get to the file (actually only one time) but usually cannot. when I can get to it it tells me that I do not have permission to save the file. the other times it tells me that I do not have permission to view the root directory.

2 problems. My system is version 10 and the live CD is version 12. does this matter.
the other problem is version 12 is the new GUI and I can not find term which might help me bypass the problem I am having by using SUDO.

I think you should have to try boot repair and restore your grub .help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair – Jai Jun 26 '12 at 13:09

Please clarify your situation and question, using paragraphs. Right now its one wall of text. Also, one question per question please, we'll deal with your sudo problem later, let's get windows fixed. – izx Jun 26 '12 at 13:27
