Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I wanted to have a go at packaging a Qt app into a deb file to submit to the ubuntu software center so I made a small helloworld applicationa and followed the steps on this page.I get a problem when I execute the command

sudo pbuilder create

the error that i get is:

wks@linuxmint ~ $ sudo pbuilder create

I: Distribution is oneiric.

I: Building the build environment

I: running debootstrap /usr/sbin/debootstrap

I: Retrieving Release

E: Failed getting release file http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/oneiric/Release

E: debootstrap failed

W: Aborting with an error

I: cleaning the build env

I: removing directory /var/cache/pbuilder/build//7393 and its subdirectories

The guide does not explain what to do in case of such an error nor what might cause it. I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to go about this.

Note: The guide is for Ubuntu but I am working with LinuxMint. I hope that's not a problem since LinuxMint is based off of Ubuntu.

According to this discussion , this question suits more in Unix and Linux Stackexchange. Since, and also it is pointing error to Linux Mint Repository not Ubuntu. – tijybba Jun 25 '12 at 11:45
Sorry for posting in the wrong space. But basically, if I were to install ubuntu on another partition, it'd start working? – W.K.S Jun 25 '12 at 11:50
Since i can't tell the difference between the repositories of Linux mint and Ubuntu's i can't comment on that. If you take a look at app Showdown rules it states that Ubuntu release: all entries must be submitted for the current stable release – Ubuntu 12.04 , also another user here had some issues so again he was replied to use Ubuntu 12.04 for developing apps – tijybba Jun 25 '12 at 12:00
Also try using Ubuntu 12.04 in Virtual Box, that may help . – tijybba Jun 25 '12 at 12:06
