That DM is not available for linux. I suggest uget, you'll find it in official repos. –  jasmines Jun 25 '12 at 5:23

The current version of IDM does not support Mac, IPad/IPhone, Android or Unix/Linux operating systems. Maybe we will release compatible versions in the future.1

Now, keeping that in mind, Wget is the Ubuntu default download manager. It’s a utility for downloading files from the web, and it doesn’t require the user's attention.

Since Wget is the Ubuntu default download manager, you already have it installed.

Just press Ctrl+Alt+T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the command below to get an idea of the options.

Wget –help

Another option is Steadyflow, to install it

Just press Ctrl+Alt+T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the command below.

sudo apt-get install steadyflow

or from USC

There is a better alternative for IDM: askubuntu.com/questions/259228/… –  Naveen Feb 21 '13 at 13:25

Internet download maanger is not supported in linux.

I recommend you to use other alternatives like

  1. DownthemAll addon for firefox. In addtion you can try with Video DownloadHelper for video downloads.

  2. uget - you can find it in ubuntu software center.

  3. The default download manager. Wget however its a command line down loader. So for a GUI you can try wgetgui

I never required any thing other than option 1.

Try installing Internet download manager's old version 5.05 through wine in Ubuntu. Though it doesn't integrate with the browsers of Ubuntu, but will definitely connect to internet. Try and copy the download link and then use it through "add URL" option in IDM. Later version of IDM's are not supported as they don't connect to internet through Wine.
