My desktop pc crashed with a power failure.

Now I get this when I try to boot:

/root/sys failed: no such file or directory and target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init." No init found. Try passing init = bootarg

I have used a Live CD so I am online, but cannot access my old files. I assume they are on what is called the "314 GB filesystem," but I cannot mount it. Is there anything I can do?
