I've got a low disk space message window of 99.9 MB disk space remaining.

When I went to the Ubuntu System Monitor it was saying on the System Tab:

System Status
Available disk space: 49.4 MiB.

The System Status on the System Tab doesn't seem to change even if I delete stuff from the disk.

What does the Disk Usage Analyzer say? –  Nickolas Jun 22 '12 at 10:49

If you go to the File-systems tab in system monitor you can see there all free space may not be available due to space requirement of file-system metadata, so there are two separate columns for Free and Available space. Maybe you are getting the total free space as 99.9 MB and available space as 49.4 MB. –  Samik Jun 22 '12 at 12:16
