I'm not sure if the issue ultimately falls on Ubuntu or xmonad, but when I use the unity desktop in Ubuntu from my VM, when I resize the window, the desktop resizes accordingly, but when using xmonad, I have to use scrollbars to view the whole screen (I have the VMware Player window as tall as I can make it on my laptop monitor). I used to be a lot more proficient at linux, but I haven't used it as a full time desktop in a while (right now, I'm using it mostly as an SSH shell for my local home server), so I'm sure there's something I can do to solve this, I'm just not sure. If this is a question for the Xmonad ladies and gents, I can always go there and ask, too.
