Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

At login page, where you choose your user among the list of the available ones, I can also see the list of available DEs (Gnome, Gnome classic, Unity, Unity 2d, etc) but the funny thing is that the classic "foot" logo normally associated to the GNOME selection has now disappeared, and instead the "gear" logo (the one normally related to Unity, is on the side of the "gnome" choice.

Note that the foot logo remains associated to the Gnome Classic item, and that the "gear" logo is still associated to the various versions of Unity available.

This is not serious, since I can still access my GNOME or Unity environment, but I wonder if I can fix this up.

There may have been an issue during your upgrade then. The Unity items in that menu actually should have an Ubuntu logo, while the GNOME items get the GNOME logo. However, this site isn't for reporting bugs. You should probably open a bug report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/ about your problem.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I will post the bug, however I was wondering if there existed a way to fix this weird problem, since it seems like there's a wrong association between the image file for the logo and the menu option for the login. Thanks again – swordfish Jun 18 '12 at 9:12
Are you certain all the packages are up-to-date and properly installed? Does apt-get -f install do anything? Does apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade to anything? – dobey Jun 18 '12 at 14:11
Hi, I tried those solutions but with no results... Thanks anyway for your suggestion. – swordfish Jun 19 '12 at 7:27
