I have a "Dell inspiron 1564" and ubuntu doesn't find my friends router it works great at home, he has a vodafone router. Ethernet works but WIFI doesn't work. I even find his neighbors router, my ubuntu simply doesn't find their router :/

Same issue..i am having this issue with my AT&T Uverse modem. It connects to every other network i tried (my neighbor's, wifi at school) Any help will is appreciated... – user141504 Mar 18 at 22:28
this was my friends laptop and it didn't work when he was at me, but now it works. He has Ubuntu 12.10 with openbox now, and 12.04 back then. maybe if you upgrade to 12.10 it will work – Jeggy Mar 22 at 18:46
