Does the webcam work in cheese? – Martin Owens -doctormo- Nov 26 '10 at 23:33
Please outline what the problem is with adding contacts - does it produce an error? Do the newly added contacts not show up in the contact list? Also, post the output of lspci and lsusb in here please. – evgeny Nov 27 '10 at 0:14
This question has not information added in it for a very long time and probably describes a bug in old package versions. I have flagged it to a moderator so it can be closed. If you think that this is still a valid question and that you are still suffering for this issue you can always flag it so that it can be re-opened. – Bruno Pereira Feb 3 '12 at 1:06

I see that your camera is registered in linux kernel as: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04f2:b120 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd

I think with Cheese, (install it through Ubuntu Software Center) should work

I believe he is talking about Skype, not the webcam in general. – evgeny Nov 27 '10 at 0:12
