Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

when the screen locks, and i need to log back in, the login dialog-box gets displayed on a random display (i have 4, running xinerama across 2 graphics cards).

my problem is that one of my monitors is attached via a KVM, and when ubuntu puts my monitors to sleep to save power, the monitor switches over to the other input, as it's still active. this is fine, until i need to log in, and i can't find the login dialog box, because it is in the display that has switched.

is there an easy way to turn off the random location of this box, and set it to a particular display? it would be great if it would always show up on my leftmost monitor.

thanks.
