I can set speakers volume separately from the headphones volume in the sound settings dialog. But when I use the multimedia keys on my keyboard, only the speaker volume gets affected. This is no matter if headphones are plugged in or not.

Is there a way to configure ubuntu so the multimedia keys would control both speakers and headphones volume? Ideally, I'd like to keep separate volume controls for the speakers and the headphones, but to select which one are controlled by the multimedia keys depending if headphones are plugged or not. If this is not possible, a way to control both volumes at the same time would be acceptable for me as well.

I'm using ubuntu 12.04
