Soooo, did you read that log file? Could you please show us the contents of that log file? –  Ocaso Protal Jun 5 '12 at 5:59

Have you tried re-installing? –  Mitch Jun 5 '12 at 6:06

This article might help: http://wittykeegan.blogspot.com/2012/06/ubuntu-1204-eclipse.html

Basically, try these commands in the terminal, and see if they help:

cd ~/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64
ln -s /usr/lib/jni/libswt-atk-gtk-3740.so
ln -s /usr/lib/jni/libswt-gtk-3740.so
ln-s /usr/lib/jni/libswt-pi-gtk-3740.so

It's hard to tell exactly what your problem is without the log file, though. Could you upload it if this doesn't work?

If that is the problem, I suggest logging into Launchpad and marking this bug as affecting you too: bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/989615 - and flagging this question for closure since it is a bug. –  David Edwards Jun 6 '12 at 13:55

Run in terminal

sudo update-alternatives --config java

You should update another configure alternatives.
