I have an older model MacBook, with dual boot (OSX and Windows XP). The system no longer boots up, I receive several error messages, and endless reboots. Is there a way to install Ubuntu from USB drive if I can't get OSX or Windows XP to boot properly?

It depends on why you can't boot into OSX or XP. It would help if you posted the error messages. On the other hand, why not just give it a try? What've you got to lose? – Kelley May 31 '12 at 23:36
What model macbook? Also it is very dificualt to boot usb on macbooks, using a cd will save a lot of trouble, and on certain models booting usb may not be possible without access to a working OSX – mateo_salta Jun 1 '12 at 1:41
Your problem may be your hardware in which case Ubuntu is no more likely to run than OS X or Win XP. Have you run Apple Hardware Test? – irrational John Jun 1 '12 at 11:35
