Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My aim is to have a minimal XBMC build with as little un-needed extras as possible

This is what I have done so far

installed Ubuntu Server with no packaged selected installed the following packages:

 xbmc
 xorg
 pulseaudio
 lightdm

Everything is fine and when I login, xbmc launches by default

My next hurdle I wish to get working is VNC server, not for the purpose of remove desktop screen sharing but because the app I use on my phone (hipporemote) uses VNC keyboard presses to navigate XBMC

So I am wondering, without having a DE installed. How can I enable VNC and have the VNC session available when using a xbmc-session
