Any .mkv causes the PC to freeze with graphic and sound artifacts (within 2 to 8 minutes), sometimes a reboot occurs. VLC under W7/64 on the same Vaio : no problems.

VLC v2.01/2.02. Vaiofand/vaiopower installed, video on stamina mode only (intel).

CPU load is at 50% max, temperatures never exceed 59°C (Psensor). No changes trying any video/audio output in VLC.

Any help is welcomed!

Marcel

I have SZ-4XWM: There is a separate GPU with another sensor. I think it's under the top left of the keyboard. But I think your problem is nvidia driver. the shipped nvidia in 12.04 is known to be bad with 7 and 8 series Nvidia cards. btw: CPU holding at 50% sounds like going full blast on one core... – gecko May 22 '12 at 19:11
Thanx for your reply, Gecko. I tested the vaio with recent NVIDIA drivers, none of them is working 100% (screen lags mostly). That's why I only boot it with intel graphics (stamina). It seems that any .mkv (720p or even 480p) is problematic using SMplayer, VLC and the likes, same results : reboots, freezes. Can't find a workaround! – Marcel Rouste Jun 29 '12 at 14:27
