didn't work for me, are key values different for DELL and HP ? – Dev Uberoi May 20 '12 at 21:09
they differ from model to model, so yes the ones from HP isn't the same as the ones from DELL. – Alvar May 20 '12 at 21:33

There's a previous question and solution using Compiz: How to change the shortcut to adjust brightness?

Most of the shortcuts are available via Keyboard (access through Hud or Gnome Do),but I could not find those that relate to brightness.

thanks for the reply but i want to disable the brightness keys. The solution you gave is for remapping the keys. Any way i can disable them? – Dev Uberoi May 20 '12 at 21:01
what I've done in my HP computer is making the Fn keys Fn keys by default, instead of the keys for brightnes, volume, etc. To use them now I have to use the blue fn button. You have to enter your Bios setup (usually pressing Esc at the very beginning of boot. Then go to System configuration and change Action Keys Mode to Disabled – Ramon Suarez May 22 '12 at 5:44
oh ok, i'll try that. thanks :) – Dev Uberoi May 29 '12 at 18:10
thanks a lot Ramon, that BIOS thing works out for now. Changed from Multimedia first to Fn key first. – Dev Uberoi May 29 '12 at 19:26
Awesome, glad it helped :) – Ramon Suarez May 30 '12 at 7:48
