After upgrading to 12.04, Skype and Mathematica randomly disappear from the unity launcher so that they are unusable anymore. Calling them again from the dashboard does not bring it back, since this just launches other instances of the programs. The only thing I can do is reboot. Even restarting the GUI or login-logout does not solve it. Only reboot will do.

I assume it is related to their QT framework and I am in serious need of a fix.

I'm going to buy a ubuntu12.04-based laptop. But I need Mathematica for my work. So I'm really keen to know whether you have resolved this issue with Mathematica? –  stupidity Jul 26 '12 at 5:21
yes, after a reinstall of 12.04, instead of upgrade, Unity + Mathematica work fine. Skype still has some issues though. –  n3rd Aug 14 '12 at 1:27
