I'm trying to install the latest version of Ubuntu x64 (12.04-amd64) and I'm having some troubles installing it. I can boot into it fine, but some problems arise in the installation procedure;

When installing Ubuntu 12.04 off a LiveCD the "Try Ubuntu" works perfectly, but when I try to install it, it crashes after the menu where you have to choose what install type you want to do (I'm selecting install alongside Windows 7 here by the way). Here are some error messages:

Those messages you showed are not error messages. It looks more like a normal shutdown.

What you will have to do is do manual partitioning instead of the "Install alongside Windows 7" option. Just resize the largest partition (which should be the Windows equivalent of /home) in half and use the free space to install the / partition as an ext4 filesystem. Explicitly stating what you want like this will allow it to work, but you are more likely to mess something up this way. I recommend getting a backup of all data first.

how do I resize the largest partition? – Laika May 12 '12 at 20:30
There should be an option during the manual formatting that allows you to resize when you give it a size in megabytes. Just use half of whatever the displayed number is. – Dymatic May 13 '12 at 14:44

when you are on main menu, hit f6 i select first two options. That solved my problems with installation

I'm a little confused as to what you mean- could you be a little clearer? I'm a newb so bear with me. =) – Laika May 12 '12 at 20:30
when you put your cd, after a second you'll see a keyboard icon, now press any key, now you'll see menu and just do what I said in previous post. – Alen May 14 '12 at 14:31
