As much as I like and enjoy the new Unity in 12.04 - after I'd installed WebUpd8's window dodge deb - I can't help missing the dash home in 11.10. The dash home with the slightly divisive 8 giant shortcuts.
I would like to replace the current 12.04 home with that of Ubuntu 11.10. Is this possible? If not then I'd like to add two quicklinks (internet & media) to the launcher's dash home button. Any suggestions as to how best to go about this?
Why?
Well, the home page doesn't seem to serve any purpose. And the new arrangement requires an extra couple of clicks to get access to most internet or media apps.
The recently accessed files and downloads are also in Files and Folders, and the recently accessed apps could just as easily be placed in the Applications scope/section/lens - whatever it's called.
While I can understand why you don't need 4 enormous links to firefox, thunderbird, shotwell and banshee, the loss of the shortcuts to internet and media seems a little nonsensical.
That said, I suspect that there's a good chance that in the coming weeks I might come to appreciate some hitherto undiscovered advantage with this new set-up. If any one knows what that advantage might be then please could you share the insight and help make the next few weeks a little less frustrating.
If I might be permitted one last gripe about the dash home: it just doesn't look as nice. I've managed to convert a dozen or so Windows users to Ubuntu using the wow-factor of the 11.10 Unity interface, but recent appeals with the new and less glamorous 12.04 dash home is proving a tougher sell.
Thanks for your help.
