Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've tried the below settings which didn't seem to affect the restarts.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

I am now running the latest Nvidia drivers from the website installed manually and I'm still having problems with persistent restarts (below from the kern log). Any ideas on anything different I can do to try and resolve the problem?

I had similar problem. It looked like X restarts while using Firefox (youtube and other websites which requires Flash) Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/990357

I've found kind of solution. It worked for me. Just install Flash-Aid plugin for Firefox and using it, install unstable Flash player from Adobe lab repo (not Ubuntu).

Unstable flash crashes sometimes but it's easier to simply refresh website than log in again after X restarts, I guess.

NVRM: Xid (0000:01:00): 6, PE0001 My ubuntu crashed out and need to relogin several times today. There is a long-standing bug for this issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/733374

It only occurs after I upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04. My graphic card is gts250 and the Driver Version: 295.53.
