Im trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Precision 470 with no success.

I boot off of the live cd and click install, but the installer doesnt see a hard drive.

I read this article, but there are no settings in my BIOS to change SATA operation mode.

Any ideas?

are the devices have ntfs partitions or is a fresh install of ubuntu? – ashutosh May 6 '12 at 0:12
currently has win7/ntfs on it – Keltari May 6 '12 at 1:41
then maybe this problem does persist for the grub is not recognizing your ntfs partitions. Just try the live CD if it does detect the partitions. also use fdisk -l – ashutosh May 6 '12 at 1:52

no partitions listed. I wonder if Ubuntu doesnt recognize the SATA controller. – Keltari May 6 '12 at 4:33
