create a folder called /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

and then name the below as 51.clickpad.conf:

Section "InputClass"

Identifier "Default clickpad buttons"

MatchDriver "synaptics"

Option "SoftButtonAreas" "50% 0 82% 0 0 0 0 0"

EndSection

then log out and log back in again

you could always read the Ubuntu Documentation or Touchpad Synaptics WiKi; links provided below

if your touchpad is not recognised by ubuntu; you can check this by using synclient and seeing if Clickpad=0, if so then you can do 1 of 2 things:

add the following to the above 51.clickpad.conf:

Option "ClickPad" "true"

Option "EmulateMidButtonTime" "0"

or

use the following and create a shell script, make it exectuable and run it at start up

sleep 3

synclient Clickpad=1

end

Use 2 fingers to right click. Instead of tapping the touchpad with one finger use 2 fingers. I hope this helps cause it worked on my Dv7t Beats Edition.
