I've recently upgraded to Xubuntu 12.04 (yay), but for some reason my notebook's function keys are apparently misconfigured. When I hit Fn + "Volume down", for example, the "Volume indicator dialog" opens up on the top right corner of the screen and the volume icon does change according to what I press (up or down), but the volume itself isn't affected at all and, also, the bar right next to the icon in the dialog seems to have acquired an opacity that makes it almost invisible (although I can see it and it moves forwards and backwards, as it should). Has anybody ever run into this same issue? Although I used Xubuntu Oneiric for quite a short time, I think my function keys did work over there, so I'm guessing it's got something to do with 12.04 release.

Note: I've installed Xubuntu with my usb wireless keyboard/mouse and external monitor plugged in to my notebook, so I wonder if Xubuntu has mistakenly recorded that keyboard Fn keys (which are different) instead of my notebook's default keyboard.

It's kind of a complex thing, at least to me who am a new linux user hehe (though I've had my way around a few things lately), so I appreciate any help very much! Thanks in advance!

I have decided to move back to Ubuntu/Gnome, but it'd be nice if somebody looked up the Function Keys mapping/functioning in Xubuntu, because I still like Xfce a lot and would use it in the future. Thanks anyways! – prubini87 May 2 '12 at 0:18
