A DVD with any data on it, an iso file, backup data, whatever, will mount properly after being inserted into the CD/DVD drive. A blank one will not. A blank CD will show up properly in the 'Places' list and the system will ask what I application I want to use on it. But a blank DVD? nowt, nada, nuttin, bupkis. This is very annoying because I want to burn some software on one. I'm sure this did work at one time, perhaps several versions of Ubuntu ago. I currently have 11.04 on one machine and 12.04 on another, and the same behavior applies to both. For the record, my 11.04 Ubuntu has this line in the /etc/fstab file: dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
I know this will sound as a redundant question, but have you tried to get the drive to pick up blanks with another OS?
It could be the drive itself.
