I tried to run a small windows game in WINE today, but I got 1-2 frames per second. It was a 2D game, so there was no reason for the lag. It worked just fine before upgrading to 12.04. Also, Java doesn't work!! Minecraft and other java programs don't work. They don't even open a window.

when you need performance on wine, run unity-2d to remove as much load from your graphics card as possible – Call me V Apr 28 '12 at 20:48
I can only use the Ubuntu/Unity 2D setting. The normal Ubuntu/Unity crashes Compiz immediately. – SuperMann May 1 '12 at 12:51
if you can only log-in under 2d, you need to solve that problem first. sounds like a video driver issue...that's a different question though – Call me V May 1 '12 at 13:26
Any idea of how to fix the driver issue? Do I need to get a new/different nVidia driver? – SuperMann May 2 '12 at 16:04
It's a separate question that will probably get closed as a bug report. It works fine on my Nvidia card. – Call me V May 2 '12 at 17:38

You have to install OpenJDK to make Java work: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java . To make Minecraft work you need to set minecraft.jar to executable in Properties > Permissions and set the default program to OpenJDK (instead of Archive Manager).

For Wine, go to http://appdb.winehq.org and see if the app is compatible with the newest version of wine.

I have Java installed. And I didn't change my wine version, so it should still work. – SuperMann Apr 29 '12 at 23:48
Then maybe there is something wrong with your display driver. And go to the website to see if the newer version of the app is compatible with the current version of Wine. – Emerson Hsieh Apr 30 '12 at 3:10
What do you mean, "website"? The nVidia drivers website? Also, I didn't change the version of the windows app/game. – SuperMann May 1 '12 at 12:50
I mean the wine site. And what do you mean by updating if you didn't update anything? Did Minecraft work? It worked for me after installing OpenJDK and the drivers – Emerson Hsieh May 1 '12 at 22:09
I meant upgrading to 12.04 from 11.10. I tried OpenJDK 6 which I had used before, it didn't work, and I tried 7 and it didn't work either. – SuperMann May 2 '12 at 16:03
