I've tried some of the suggestions in other questions, and listed below is the output from, route -n ip route ifconfig nsswitch.conf dig telnet

Other info I use a thompson router /gateway, both of my laptops can access the internet o.k I have disabled the firewall on the router to eliminate that problem. Only my ubuntu 11.10 -generic 16 computer has this problem

Any suggections would be great

Try to access web using text browser such as www-browser in terminal for ex: www-browser www.google.com – Manula Waidyanatha Apr 28 '12 at 0:47
hi, i was unable to download the packages necesarry to use www-browser using apt-get, keeps responding with connection failed. Also this computer is dual boot and the internet e.t.c is working fine in vista, it's kinda sad having to use vista again to check my e-mail. – clinton Apr 28 '12 at 10:29
I fitted a second ethernet card and disabled the built in sis191, and i can boot either operating system with full internet service. The problem lay with the builtin lan adaptor. This problem is now solved. thanks – clinton May 1 '12 at 9:30
