Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am an happy Ubuntu user for quite a long time, but since Ubuntu 11.10 that the Portuguese Dead Keys are not working properly

So typing with a Portuguese Layout (with no 'Eliminate dead keys'): ^ & a = รข

Instead I get: ^ & a = ^a

Which is rather annoying. I thought of re-installing Ubuntu, but there must be a way to fix this without re-installing the OS.

Does any know how to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Just to be sure, you should see a keyboard indicator in the upper left. When you click it, there is a portuguese keyboard layout, and it's selected? Thanks – Jacob Johan Edwards Apr 27 '12 at 15:00
yes it is. Is "pt" when I click it, I have two options only: English (UK), Portuguese – Paulo Apr 27 '12 at 15:37
