when I start my laptop on battery the screen goes black after initially showing the ubuntu logo. I can still log in and it starts, but the screen stays black. If I start with the power cable connected it's just fine.

I have a hptx1220us running unity on Ubuntu 11.10.

I hope you can help.

Let's eliminate the simplest thing (I hope I don't offend you). What happens if you adjust the brightness? – Chan-Ho Suh Apr 18 '12 at 17:21
It´s a good question, but nothing happens, it stays black... It is a bit strange really. – flooted Apr 18 '12 at 18:56
Are you able to adjust the brightness at all, even when the power cable is connected? – Chan-Ho Suh Apr 20 '12 at 10:21
no I can't do anything except switch the computer off... – flooted Aug 24 '12 at 21:42
Are you still on 11.10? – Chan-Ho Suh Aug 25 '12 at 10:03
