I had ubuntu 11.10 installed on my system, as it was halting at startup I tried to reinstall it using upgrade option during install. I used the same partition table but not the same user name. after install I dont have my installed packages, I guess it is because of user change, any idea how I can fix the problem and get back my old configuration?

Have you tried using the upgrade feature to re-install and this time use the same user-name and log-in password? – Jeremy Jared Apr 16 '12 at 2:56
Yes, butas there was a warning that the setting will be deleted I didnt continue. the user folder is there in my home partition, but the question is how can i get it back is my home with all installed packages and settings. – Nima Apr 16 '12 at 8:57
