You have to give some details for us to help you. Merely telling us Transmission doesn't work for you is insufficient data. – Chan-Ho Suh Apr 14 '12 at 2:57
I have tried numerous bitttorent clients and sites, I cannot get a connection to download from any of them. I am not using a proxy, I am able to download updates and other apps, but I cannot get bittorrents to download – – Jack Zabriskie Apr 14 '12 at 3:18
Are you directly connected to the Internet, e.g. your cable modem, or are you using a wireless router or something else you are plugged into? – Chan-Ho Suh Apr 14 '12 at 4:03

I have a suggestion- you can use Deluge or Ktorrent. They are much better. I have removed transmission completely from my system and now using Deluge and Ktorrent to download torrents.

Now I have better controls over torrent speed. Tranmission

But if you want to stick to Transmission then try to reset its settings to its default value. Go to its settings, there you can probably find "reset" button.

And check downloading from different sites. May be the torrent you are trying to download does not have any seeders.

Just a punt, you download file, then double click downloaded file to start the actual torrent itself, right? – fleamour Sep 4 '12 at 0:36
