When I try to run Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop from USB or CD I get a black screen. When I get the black screen i can't do anything except to force shutdown (by holding the power button). I have HP g6-1c87nr notebook PC with AMD Radeon HD 6470M switchable graphics Card.

I believe this is a known bug/issue. It's discussed here ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1803056. Perhaps a bug report? – Call me V Apr 7 '12 at 5:21
This issue seems to be solved with 12.04. (answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/…). I have a nivida optimus, 12.04 starts without any problem – Web-E Apr 7 '12 at 6:44
