Possibly something wrong with your sources.list. See

http://last-error-message.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/failed-to-exec-method-usrlibaptmethods.html

please have a look at my sources.list file in my edited query and now please give some help. Thanks in advance. –  blackhole Mar 27 '12 at 9:45

What happens if you run sudo apt-get update? You might have some unofficial repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ to. Also there are a number of questions like this on ubuntuforums.org, each with different solutions. Rather than post all of them here i'll point you to a google search: tinyurl.com/bubmpta –  cosmorogers Mar 27 '12 at 9:57

Now heres the problem that when i run update process then it checks all repos and is successful but when i run upgrade process then the error i told in my query is generated. –  blackhole Mar 27 '12 at 10:02

Do any non standard repos appear when doing apt-get update? Is so try and remove them (temporarily) and see if that fixes it –  cosmorogers Mar 28 '12 at 11:56
