I recently installed blender via apt-get on Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, but whenever I try to start it, nothing happens. I tried via xterm but all it showed was "Segmentation fault" before terminating. Any help on the topic would be appreciated.

Did you use blender before on that computer/harddrive? Maybe your ~/.blender directory is corrupted? You could try to move it somewhere else (mv ~/.blender ~/.blender.bak), and try again. If that fails, try to start it under the GNU debugger and post the output. – daniel kullmann Mar 23 '12 at 7:13
Yeah, it works for me – Call me V Mar 23 '12 at 9:29

I think Blender only works with 32 bit, but if it doesn't work with 64 bit as you said you should try and getting it on the official site for Blender, that way you can know what works from what doesn't and what's available from what isn't...
