I'm really not good with computers. I recently got a new one with Windows 7. I installed Ubuntu on my old computer and used it with no problem. I decided to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7 on my new computer by using the alternate CD that I burned. When I start the computer the boot menu comes up, but if I select Ubuntu is does not load. It comes up with a purple screen for a few seconds, but then goes blank and switches from a black screen to a blueish screen, like it's trying to do something but doesn't. I've gone into recovery mode successfully but have no idea what to do once I get there.

Your Grub might have been corrupted. You need to reinstall it. Use the live CD for that. And there are several questions already about this thread: installing-ubuntu-11-10-x64-alongside-windows-7-x64-doesnt-boot-into-ubuntu dual-boot-issues-with-windows-7-and-ubuntu and others... |
