I use a shared internet connection in hostel where there is a ban on using torrents(since it sucks speed), But still im sometimes desperate to use it, So, Is there any way to hide Torrents from installed applications menu in Dash(in case some random guy comes inspecting)?

You didn't mention the specific version or ubuntu you are using, so assuming 12.04.

In ubuntu 12.04, the privacy tab in the system settings allows you set rules for the logging activity on the system. Here you can exclude to keep track of bit-torrent application, which will serve the purpose.

The privacy in included by default in 12.04, you can install it in previous version by :

sudo apt-get install activity-log-manager

Remove the file /usr/share/applications/gnome-btdownload.desktop (you will need root privileges to do so).

And what happens if you update your system and the corresponding packet that belongs to the file you mention, is updated as well? Yes, then the file is back. – Marco Mar 7 '12 at 21:26
@Marco Good point. A possible solution would be to add 'rm /usr/share/applications/gnome-btdownload.desktop' to rc.local. – bessman Mar 7 '12 at 21:48
