Had everything running fine for once, then i rebooted.. a window popped up saying there was something like 240 updates.. so i clicked install... rebooted.. then when it gets to the Ubuntu loading screen, it just stays there... anyone have any ideas?

This is like the 3rd time this happens to me.. each time i have to re-install and restore from a backup...

Is there something i'm doing wrong with these updates? Are some of the updates not compatible or something? Should i unselect some of them or what?

Any help is much appreciated...

Thanks

Jay..you don't need to install everything that pops up to you..there are the necessary and recommended downloads...you should read carefully the options so you install only what is really required....I'm gonna search to see if I find something.. – Gerep Feb 28 '12 at 18:39
Thanks.. kind of figured it had something to do with that, it's just there are like 240 updates.. that's a lot to check/read through... especially since half of them i have no idea what they do.. hehe I read somewhere it could have something to do with the kernel updates... should i unselect all the ones that say kernel in it? – Jay Feb 28 '12 at 18:58
I always select the necessary updates and read some of the recommended to see if something is necessary(e.g: python libs) and never had this problem...if you are sure it is something with kernel update, I recommend you format your computer... – Gerep Feb 28 '12 at 19:33

Well i fixed it somehow... i booted from the live usb and selected the option that said "update 11.10 to 11.10" it said it was keeping your old files etc.. so it re-installed the old packages and stuff.. after all that i logged into my session, decided to check for updates, and now suddenly there is none... so i guess they are already installed and during the re-installation Ubuntu somehow fixed the problem! :)
