I was watching English films translated into arabic with a .srt file. It looks like this in Ubuntu 11.10: movies in ubuntu For some reason, though, it looks like this in windows 8: movies in windows so what can I do to see the right translation?

Run chardet file.srt, and report its output here. –  enzotib Feb 25 '12 at 15:12
Run the following command iconv -f WINDOWS-1256 'The Illusionist.srt' > newfile.srt, and after saving the original file somewhere, rename the newfile to 'The Illusionist.srt' and see if it works. Also try with IBM864 instead of WINDOWS-1256. –  enzotib Feb 27 '12 at 15:50
