I tried installing Ubuntu on my HP Compaq & Sony VAIO VPC, but without success. On the HP i get only error lines during the BIOS load and on the VAIO just a black screen. Trying to install using wubi also appears to be a problem. Getting Permission denied or Unknow error as a response.

What am I supposed to do now ?

Perhaps you was wrong with choosing distribution for your hardware.

Try this links:
Installing Ubuntu 11.10 from the Alternate CD
Graphical Install

I would consider the installation problems a result from bad disk media or corrupt .ISO file. Recommend a different download and then checking the md5sum against the listed known sums. Burn the .ISO at the lowest possible speed.
