I am on Xubuntu and want to install Cinnamon 1.3 which got release recently. Currently there are no PPAs for 1.3. Webupd8 says to download muffin and cinnamon packages from cinnamon's website. Doing that couldnt bring up cinnamon i.e. after the login prompt, cinnamon doesn't load up and it falls back to login screen. Any help?

You have to install 3 things, cinnamon, cinnamon-settings and muffin. – Uri Herrera Feb 18 '12 at 18:22

  1. According to this post, it was released yesterday. PPAs and debian packages are maintained by people, it's normal to delay several days to allow them to test basic functions of the program. I'd say wait at least after the weekend. If you don't see a package, send a message to the official cinnamon ubuntu PPA maintainer:

  2. On the other hand, you could use the linuxmint package archive:

  3. You could also use the main repository in your /etc/apt/sources.list:

    deb lisa main

Warning: Use the repository with caution, I haven't personally tested it, it could create problems with your current installation. Prefer solution #2.

the Cinnamon Ubuntu PPA you mentioned here is Unofficial according to the page you have provided with it. – user45315 Feb 18 '12 at 10:44
Just now I saw on Cinnamon Official website saying about the same PPA. Its weird that they are calling it as an unofficial one. – user45315 Feb 18 '12 at 11:14
They probably forgot to update it. if it's recommended by upstream, I dub it as official. :) – medigeek Feb 18 '12 at 13:08
