Every time I click on the Filezilla icon in the launcher it opens maximised. Is there any way to make it behave and open as a normal window, and perhaps ideally even remember its window position?

If you open Filezilla, restore the window to a non-maximized state, close and re-open the program it should remember the window size previously used. What version of the program are you using? This probably should be reported to the Filezilla bug tracker. –  Bruno Pereira Feb 17 '12 at 14:24

That was the first thing I tried, Bruno. Filezilla will not remember window size or position, but will always open maximised. I'll report it to the Filezilla bug tracker as you suggest. Thanks –  dunderhead Feb 18 '12 at 16:55

Update: This is not a Filezilla bug. It's a Unity launcher bug. Launching Filezilla from a terminal or from Cairo Dock works perfectly and behaves as it should. –  dunderhead Mar 12 '12 at 7:54

Just tested this on 12.10: Filezilla behaves as it should. Closing the application maximized restores it maximized, window mode restores it as window mode, both launcher and terminal tested. This should be reported as a bug if still important. –  Bruno Pereira Dec 28 '12 at 23:26
