Possible Duplicate:
There's an issue with an Alpha/Beta Release of Ubuntu, what should I do?

My laptop, a Lenovo U300s, is running Ubuntu 12.04. It can successfully hibernate (sudo pm-hibernate in a terminal) and resume from hibernation. However, in the Power dialog ("Power" from the Dash, or "Power Settings..." from the battery indicator), the "When the lid is closed" dropdown has the "Hibernate" option disabled so that it cannot be selected; I can only select "Suspend" or "Do nothing". Why is this option presented but not selectable, and how can I make it selectable so that I can make my laptop hibernate on lid close?

Note also: I can't use suspend (which would be my preferred option) because the U300s has a suspend bug at the moment: bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/904261 – sil Feb 8 at 12:53

I don't know if this is an issue from an alpha/beta release, but you can also change that option from the dconf-editor tool. You can install it with the command

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

And then run it from the alt+f2 menu with the command dconf-editor

The settings you are searching for are stored in org->gnome->settings-daemon->plugins->power. Just set the options lid-close-ac-action and/or lid-close-battery-action to hibernate

Editing it in dconf is certainly doable, but I am very wary of changing an option which the UI is trying to prevent me from changing. – sil Feb 8 at 16:07
